The ‘Marianna V. Vardinoyannis’ Foundation and ‘ELPIDA’ have opened a loving embrace for all of Greece to support our fellow human beings hit hardest by the Covid-19 health crisis. This time, their solidarity and support reached Crete, and specifically the Holy Metropolis of Lambi, Syvritos and Sfakia.
The packages, which will go to our economically vulnerable, needy and isolated fellow human beings in 85 villages in the Agios Vasilios and Amari region, were delivered on Holy Tuesday, 14 April 2020.
The charity packages were accompanied by warm words from the heart of Marianna V. Vardinoyannis: “My husband, Vardis, and I and our whole family send our best wishes for health and strength during the Easter holidays. We humbly contribute to your charitable work in 85 villages of 3 municipalities in our historic and beloved Crete. These are very difficult times we are experiencing, and our country is being tested. We thank you for giving us a way, through the loving paths of the Metropolis of Lambi, Syvritos and Sfakia and your charitable work, to deliver our symbolic assistance and best wishes for Easter to our elderly fellow human beings who live in remote, mountainous and inaccessible areas. Crete has always won battles with honour, the homeland, religion and family as its banners. These values keep us united now, giving us hope, strength and prospects. And works of solidarity and charity such as yours inspire and set an example. I wish you a Happy Easter with health, strength, love and peace.”
“Your always beneficent collaboration, like that of other friends of the Church, empowers us to face the challenges and continue this effort to help the vulnerable people of our region,” Metropolitan Eirinaios of Lambi, Syvritos and Sfakia said, thanking Vardis and Marianna Vardinoyannis for their substantial support and contribution.
The Cultural-Social Center of Amari posted a message thanking the Foundation for its contribution:
“The Holy Metropolis accepted a generous donation from the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation and the Elpida Association of Friends of Children with Cancer, initiated personally by Marianna Vardinoyannis. The donation includes large quantities of food (meat and fish) that will cover the needs of our two food centers.
This donation is one of many large donations made during the 30-year tenure of Metropolitan Eirinaios (1990-2020) by the Vardinogannis Group – at the behest of Vardis I. Vardinogannis – to the work of our Holy Metropolis. We express our heartfelt thanks to Vardis Vardinogannis and to his wife, Marianna Vardinoyannis, for their substantial support of our Holy Metropolis’s social work.”
